The short version
Stat Space reads a lot about your Mac — processes, ports, network traffic per app, sensors — and all of it stays on your Mac. The app has no analytics, no crash reporting service, and no account. It makes a handful of network requests, listed below. If you buy Pro, the Polar checkout handles your name and email so we can send you a license key.
What the app reads, locally
To do its job, the app reads system information through macOS APIs: CPU, memory, disk and network usage; per-process statistics and command lines; listening ports and the folders the processes run in; sensors, battery and fan data; the ARP cache and Bonjour names on your local network when you open the Network tab. This is processed in memory and, for history and rules, stored in a local database. None of it is sent to us.
Network requests the app makes
- Public IP — the Network readout asks
ip.statspace.appfor your public IP address. The request carries nothing else, and we don't log it beyond standard, short-lived Cloudflare request logs. - Updates — Sparkle checks
statspace.app/appcast.xmlfor new versions. - License — if you activate Pro, the app validates your key with Polar's license API, sending the key and an activation label made from this Mac's name.
- Speed test — only when you start one, macOS's built-in
networkQualitytool contacts Apple's test servers. - Diagnostics — ping, traceroute and DNS lookups go to the host you type, only when you run them.
- Local network — a device scan, only when you tap Scan, sends packets to devices on your own network. They never leave it.
- Favicons — the Ports tab may load the icon of a dev server running on your own Mac (localhost).
- Remote monitoring (Pro) — off by default. If you turn it on, the app streams the metrics you choose to the dashboard endpoint you configure.
What Polar collects when you buy
When you purchase Pro or the prompt pack, our payment processor, Polar, collects what's necessary to complete the transaction:
- Your name and email (so we can send your license key or download)
- Billing and tax information required by the payment networks
- The payment instrument itself (handled by Polar's payment partners — we never see card numbers)
Through Polar's dashboard, we can see your name, email, and the license keys issued for your purchase. We use this only to provide support and to validate licenses.
What's stored on your Mac
- Your license key and preferences — stored under the bundle ID
app.statspace.StatSpace. - History, keep-awake rules and spike logs — a SQLite database at
~/Library/Application Support/StatSpace/.
Deleting the app and that folder removes all of it.
Permissions
macOS may ask you to allow Local Network access the first time you scan for devices; the app works without it. The optional fan-control helper is a small background daemon that macOS asks you to approve when you turn fan control on; turning it off removes it.
Website
This website is a static site hosted on Cloudflare Pages. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics or third-party tracking. Cloudflare may log standard request metadata as part of its CDN function. The post-purchase activation page talks to Polar from your browser to fetch your license key.
Your rights
- Delete the app and its data at any time.
- Ask us to delete your purchase record from Polar by emailing [email protected].
- Request a copy of any data we hold about you (which is essentially your purchase record in Polar).
If you're in the EU, UK, or another jurisdiction with specific data-protection laws, you have the rights granted by that jurisdiction. Email us and we'll honor them.
